Busch, the winner of the April Texas race, hit the wall about six minutes into the first and only practice session of the day. He went back out in the backup car for four laps and briefly was in the top 10, but finished 22nd quickest. Kevin Harvick (196.685mph) led the session, followed by Chase contenders Carl Edwards (196.278mph) and Matt Kenseth (195.929mph). Qualifying will begin at 6:45 p.m. ET.
Busch sits fourth on the Chase grid.
