INDYCAR: Chevy celebrates championship win

Chevrolet has paid tribute to its teams and drivers after claiming its fifth consecutive IndyCar Manufacturers' title.

Chevy-powered cars won 14 of 16 races this year, and Chevrolet's director of competition Mark Kent said that the result is a testament to its on-track partners.

"To be successful, it takes a lot of people," he said. "It takes great partners, great teams, great drivers, great execution. We're fortunate to be aligned with a lot of great teams and a lot of great drivers.

"Every one of our teams wants to win.

Our goal is to give them the building blocks to be successful, including our partners at Ilmor engineering with the great 2.2 liter twin-turbo engine that they build for Chevrolet.

It's been a great season. We're very proud of the opportunity to compete in this great series."

Ilmor Engineering president Paul Ray said that he expects further gains to be found in the Chevy powerplant during the off-season, despite relatively few areas of the engine being open for development."

"Our team have been working on the 2017 product for quite some time," he said.

"Whilst the rules don't allow us to change a huge amount, it doesn't mean to say that you can't keep tweaking on the bits we can change. We'll be testing engines on track as soon as we're allowed to in January with the new specifications.

All we can hope for is more of the same for next year.
