Father of driver, SST founder Robby Gordon found dead

The father of former NASCAR racer and Stadium Super Trucks driver-owner Robby Gordon and sister Beccy was found dead along with his wife in their Orange, California, home on Wednesday afternoon.

Robert, 68, and Sharon, 57, were identified by the Orange County coroner.

In a statement, the Orange Police Department said a 911 call was received at about 5 p.m. on Wednesday indicating there were two bodies inside a home in the 1400 block of North Kennymead Street in the city of Orange. Upon arrival, police found the bodies of Gordon and his wife.

A rifle was recovered inside the residence, the police confirm.

The cause of death has not been determined, police said. The Orange PD Investigative Services Division is investigating. Police do not believe a suspect is at large.

News comes on the same day Beccy Gordon and her husband, IndyCar's Ryan Hunter-Reay, welcomed their third son. Robby Gordon's Stadium Super Trucks series is scheduled to be in Costa Mesa on Friday and Saturday for the Sand Sports Super Show.

Nicknamed “Baja Bob,” Robert Gordon was a prominent off-road racer and Baja 1000 champion. Robby Gordon followed in his footsteps in series across the globe; in June he claimed the first starting spot in the Baja 500 for the third straight year.

The Gordons are also survived by daughters Robyn and Haylee.

RACER extends our thoughts and condolences to the Gordon and Hunter-Reay families.
