IHRA: Capone notches first victory

At every IHRA Drag Racing Series event this year, Frank Capone, half of the two-motorcycle team at Bad Apple Racing, has been out there working toward his first win, getting more experience with each run, and learning from his teammate, Tracy Kile.

At the Northern Nationals season finale at U.S. 131 Motorplex in Martin, Michigan, it all paid off as Capone closed out the season with his first victory, running a 6.45 at 220.26 mph, to Tii Tharpe's 6.503 at 200.80mph.

Capone was delighted to get that monkey off his back.

"It's all coming around," he said. "My riding, the team, everything finally came together.
"I just stepped up today. It was a hell of a drag race. These guys are all so tough – there are no 'gimmes' in this series. And the IHRA has been so great to us all season, just a great organization I'm proud to be a part of."

And will you be back next year?

"Hell yeah! Wouldn't miss it."
