F3: Herta joins Carlin's Masters attack

Colton Herta will compete with Carlin at this month's Masters of Formula 3 event at Zandvoort, as part of an expanded lineup for the British team.

Herta, son of two-time IndyCar race winner and team owner Bryan, will join Carlin's European F3 regular Alessio Lorandi as part of a three-car assault on the one-off event that takes place at the Dutch circuit on the August 19-21 weekend.

Indian Ameya Vaidyanathan completes the team's lineup, having like Herta been added in a one-off deal.

The team's second European F3 driver, Ryan Tveter, will not contest the event.

Both Herta and Vaidyanathan have experience of the Dallara F3 package in which they will compete, having raced in the Spanish-based Euroformula Open series this season with Carlin.

Herta had been set to contest the full BRDC F3 Championship campaign – which uses the Tatuus F3-016 – with the team, but he switched to Euroformula as he would have been too young to contest the BRDC season opener.

"I'm very excited to be racing at the Zandvoort Masters considering that it is such a historic race," said Herta. "I have a good team in Carlin behind me who I've been working with well in various championships and together I'm sure we can get the most from the weekend."

Team principal Trevor Carlin added: "We like the Masters so we want to support it as it's an event with great history.

"It's a toe in the water for both Colton and Ameya as both are looking at FIA F3 for next season, so it's chance for them to gain valuable experience."
