IMSA: Mazda leads final Road America practice

Mazda led its second of three practice sessions for IMSA's visit to Road America for its WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series. Jonathan Bomarito was fastest in his No. 55 Mazda Prototype (1m55.021sec) and cleared the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP (-0.414) and the sister No. 70 Mazda Prototype (-0.811) by a wide margin.

Renger van der Zande moved the No. 8 Starworks Motorsport PC to the top of the class (1m58.898sec) as the No. 85 JDC-Miller Motorsports PC (-0.361) and the No. 52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports entry followed (-0.361) with an identical time. CORE autosport's Jon Bennett had a mostly harmless spin and made light contact with the tires during the one-hour session. Although his No. 54 PC was fine, he was unable to re-fire the car, which brought out a red flag.

Corvette Racing's Antonio Garcia took the top GT Le Mans spot with his No. 3 C7.R (2m02.620sec) to displace Friday's best from Ford. The Spaniard barely edged the No. 66 Ford GT (-0.003) and had the No. 4 C7.R close behind in third (-0.190).

Bryan Sellers was fastest once again in GT Daytona with the No. 48 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracán GT3 (2m06.753sec). Alex Job Racing's No. 23 Porsche 911 GT3 R was second (-0.155) and the No. 27 Dream Racing Lamborghini sealed the top three (-0.165).

GTD authored the second red flag when the No. 73 Park Place Motorsports went off at the carousel and made contact with one of the WeatherTech Porsches. Only the No. 73 required timely repairs, but it is expected to be ready for qualifying with plenty of time to spare.
