IMSA: Wayne Taylor Racing leads damp FP1

Wayne Taylor Racing led the damp 60-minute opening practice session for this weekend's IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The duo of Ricky and Jordan Taylor posted a lap of 1m11.158s in the No. 10 Corvette DP during the intermittent dry spells, and were followed by the No. 55 Mazda P2 Prototype (-0.985 seconds) and the No. 90 Visit Florida Racing Corvette DP (-1.016).

PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports' Robert Alon and Tom Kimber-Smith led PC in their No. 52 ORECA FM09-Chevy with a 1m13.154s lap, which was faster than three Prototypes. The No. 20 BAR1 Motorsports PC (-1.113 seconds) and the No. 85 JDC-Miller Motorsports PC (-1.239) completed the top three.

The GT Daytona class, which was added to this year's event at CTMP, saw John Potter and Andy Lally head the 13-deep field in the No. 44 Magnus Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 with a 1m17.963s lap. Paul Miller Racing's No. 48 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 was second (-0.375) and the No. 22 Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R was third (-0.593).

Times improved throughout the session to the point where the fastest cars were within a few seconds of last year's pace in the dry, and with sun expected for the race, fans can look forward to more outright speed. IMSA also amended its entry list for the race on Friday morning, and trimmed the No. 68 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GTLM, No. 11 Change Racing Lamborghini Huracán GTD and No. 540 Black Swan Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R GTD from the field for a new total of 37 cars.
