PWC: Single Bentley for Fong as Palmer continues recovery
Ahead of the upcoming Pirelli World Challenge race weekend at Road America, Bentley Team Absolute and Andrew Palmer's manager Mike Perry made the following statement on behalf of the Palmer family about the team's driver, who suffered a serious head injury in a crash during the recent PWC weekend at Lime Rock:
"As Andrew continues to recover, we are all very grateful for the overwhelming support from the entire motorsport community. Both Sharon Hospital and Hartford Hospital in Connecticut have been amazing, and we would like to thank the incredible doctors and nurses for everything they have done so far.
"Andrew has demonstrated great strength and shows signs of improvement everyday, and, although we are not yet in a position to give an update on Andrew's long-term prognosis, we are remaining positive. Your respect of the family's privacy at this time is appreciated."
The team will enter one car this weekend, with its No. 88 Continental GT3 of Adderly Fong. Currently 11th in the GT Drivers Championship, Fong faces yet another unknown circuit, but has the power of the 4.0L twin-turbo V8–powered Bentley Continental GT3 behind him to take on the long straights of Road America.
"It was great to get a podium in GT Asia and I'm hoping I can continue this here in Pirelli World Challenge, this weekend," said Fong. "I'll miss having my teammate alongside me; not only is he a great friend but he has helped me learn the American tracks of which he is very familiar. I'm going to take his positivity and confidence to Road America and I aim to win us some hardware to share."
The team continues to evaluate options for its No. 87 entry for the remaining half of the PWC season, but a decision has not yet been made.
Jorge De La Torre, who also suffered multiple injuries in the accident that injured Palmer at Lime Rock, continues to recover at his home in Texas after being released from the hospital earlier this month.
Saturday's GT race at 5:30 p.m. ET and Sunday's race at 10:55 a.m. ET will both be streamed live on www.world-challenge.com.
