FV8 3.5: Dillmann takes third consecutive pole

AVF racer Tom Dillmann maintained his grip on recent Formula V8 3.5 qualifying sessions by taking his third consecutive pole position at a wet Hungaroring on Sunday.

Matthieu Vaxiviere fleetingly moved to the top of the timing screens after the checkered flag had flown, but the SMP Racing driver had his lap time deleted for breaching track limits and dropped to third. The demotion helped reinstate Hungarian-raised Israeli Roy Nissany to a front row start for this afternoon's race.

Charouz-run Lotus runner Nissany came to the fore in the closing stages of qualifying, and held provisional pole for six minutes, until Dillmann staged his successful last lap effort. Aragon opening race winner Aurelien Panis will line up behind Nissany in fourth for Arden, while Hungaroring race one podium finisher Louis Deletraz edged out the second Lotus entry of Rene Binder for fifth.

The half-hour session was interrupted by a number of full course yellow flags, with conditions at their most treacherous as qualifying got underway. Teo Martin Motorsport's rookie Yu Kanamaru found trouble on his out-lap, and last year's Hungaroring victor Egor Orudzhev spun off on the exit of Turn 12, ending his session on the back of a flatbed truck.

A number of drivers failed to record a time, including the unfortunate Matevos Isaakyan who had never driven a FV8 3.5 car in the rain before today.

The SMP Racing driver had recorded a 2m18.334s lap, only to have the time deleted for causing a yellow flag incident.
