F1: Sauber pays overdue staff salaries

Sauber has paid the remainder of the February salaries of its Formula 1 staff and is in no doubt it will compete in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

Cashflow problems meant the Swiss team was unable to fulfill last month's wage bill in full. But on Wednesday, the team confirmed that a solution had been found to ensure every employee had received their salary.

It is a particularly cost-intensive time of year for all F1 teams with the independent outfits being hit hardest. Sauber was one of three teams to ask F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone for an advance on their championship payments last year.

The Swiss team requires more funding and is said to be in the advanced stages of securing a title sponsor, although an agreement has yet to be signed.

Despite the financial difficulties, Sauber remains on schedule to compete in next weekend's race in Melbourne.
