ETCC offers 2017 WTCC prize drive

The 2016 European Touring Car Cup champion will get a prize drive in the 2017 World Touring Car Championship.

Next year's title-winner in the feeder class – which is also promoted by WTCC organizer Eurosport Events – will have a one-off outing in a European round of the world series.

A WTCC statement said the team and car involved would be announced at a later date, along with details of a "training package" to prepare the winner.

Eurosport Events chief Francois Ribeiro: "The FIA European Touring Car Cup provides an important step on the FIA's touring car ladder and this prize drive is a good step, along with the chance to become an FIA champion."

The ETCC takes place over six rounds, four as WTCC supports, including on the Nurburgring Nordschleife for the first time. The two series will combine for the event at the legendary German venue, sharing the track for practice and qualifying before starting two or three minutes apart for their races.

The WTCC prize will go to the champion from its top division for TCN2 and S2000 cars.
