F3's Giovanazzi to make sportscar debut

Formula 3 star Antonio Giovinazzi will make his sportscar debut next month, driving for the Eurasia Motorsport LMP2 squad in the Asian Le Mans Series.

The Italian, who finished runner-up in this year's Formula 3 European Championship, will drive a second ORECA-Nissan 03R for Eurasia alongside GP2 driver Sean Gelael (pictured) in the final two rounds of the series at Buriram and Sepang in January.

The deal marks a return to Eurasia for both Giovinazzi and Indonesian Gelael, who raced with the team in the Formula Pilota China junior single-seater series in Asia in 2012.

"Both Sean and Antonio started their racing careers with us, and it's great that just three years on we are back together in LMP2," Eurasia team boss Mark Goddard said. "They make a very strong driver line-up and we believe we have a very good chance of winning."

The ORECA will run in the same Jagonya Ayam colors in which Giovinazzi and Gelael have raced with Carlin in F3 and GP2, respectively.

Richard Bradley and William Lok will drive Eurasia's regular ORECA in the final two races.
