MOTOGP: Rossi withdraws CAS appeal
Valentino Rossi has formally withdrawn the Court of Arbitration for Sport appeal he lodged in a bid to avoid starting the 2015 MotoGP finale at Valencia from the rear of the grid.
The Yamaha rider received three penalty points for his Malaysian Grand Prix clash with Marc Marquez, which took him to four for the season and incurred a rear-of-grid start.
Rossi lodged an appeal with CAS, which resolves high-profile sporting cases, in late October, looking to have the points annulled, or have the Malaysian penalty reduced from three points to one. That appeal, along with a requested stay of execution until after the Valencia finale, was rejected in Switzerland on Nov. 5.
Lorenzo: Rossi 'created' Marquez feud
Rossi duly started last in Valencia as teammate Jorge Lorenzo won the race from pole and secured the title, and the Italian rider has now withdrawn his case.
A CAS statement read: "Mr. Rossi has now informed the CAS that he does not wish to continue with his appeal.
"Accordingly, the arbitration procedure has been terminated and the FIM decision will continue to remain in force."
