Mick Schumacher enters Mercedes Stars & Cars showdown

Mick Schumacher, the son of seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher, has won a fan vote to join Mercedes' Stars & Cars showdown. The 16-year-old was one of six drivers voted in to face Mercedes F1 teammates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, and the brand's eight DTM drivers in the Race Of Champions-style event in Stuttgart on Dec. 12.

Schumacher contested his first season in car racing in 2015, finishing 10th in Germany's Formula 4 series and third among the rookies. However, given the interest around his career, he was tightly guarded throughout the year and requests for interviews were declined.

The annual event with Mercedes, with whom Michael finished his F1 career, will be the highest-profile outing of his son's fledgling career.

A total of 18 Mercedes-affiliated drivers were in the fan ballot, with Schumacher finishing on top. Two-time Formula 1 world champion Mika Hakkinen also made it through, along with David Coulthard, Jean Alesi, five-time DTM champion Bernd Schneider and F1 safety car driver Bernd Maylander.
