GP3 teams allowed to run four cars

GP3 Series teams will be allowed to run four cars for the 2016 season after an updated entry list was published minus the previously announced Virtuosi Racing.

The 2016 grid will now be made up of a maximum of 28 cars across seven teams, with DAMS set to be the only newcomer and Carlin and Status Grand Prix departing.

The new GP3/16 car, which features a brand new engine and chassis and was unveiled at Monza in September, will be delivered early next year to all teams who have been given an entry for the 2016-'18 seasons.

GP3 Series CEO Bruno Michel believes that allowing teams to run a fourth car will put them in a stronger financial position.

"I am pleased to announce that our GP3 teams will be allowed to line up a fourth car next season," said Michel. "It is something that has been discussed between us and the teams this year and I feel that it will give them an even stronger financial base for the season to come."
