Viper team weighing up WEC entry

The Riley Dodge Viper team is evaluating an assault on the GTE Am class of next year's World Endurance Championship.

The company, which developed both the GTE and GT3-spec racing Vipers, is looking at both a WEC program with the GTE car and a continued campaign in next year's IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with the GT3 version. They are working on the plan together with regular driver Ben Keating, who was behind Riley Motorsports' on-off campaign in this year's Le Man 24 Hours.

"It's sure we will be racing with the Viper next year, but we are looking at both programs and it is up to Ben which we do," team boss Bill Riley told AUTOSPORT. "Ben loved Le Mans and I'd love to do the WEC. The car should be competitive in GTE Am and 2016 is the last year we can run the car."

Riley would make the WEC entry with one of the ex-works Dodge Viper SRT GTS-Rs that it formerly ran under the factory banner in the American Le Mans Series and then the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship in 2012-'14, as well as at Le Mans in 2013.

IMSA: Keating files suit over Monterey crash

The Riley Motorsports team has run the GT3-spec car in the GT Daytona class of the TUDOR Championship since last year. Keating and teammate Jeroen Bleekemolen are 11 points off the GT Daytona class championship lead going into this weekend's series finale at Road Atlanta where they will be joined in the car by Sebastiaan Bleekemolen.
