DAMS set to leave Formula Renault 3.5

DAMS is set to bow out of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series at the end of the year.

The French outfit took Kevin Magnussen and Carlos Sainz Jr. to titles in 2013 and '14 before they graduated to Formula 1, and currently fields Dean Stoneman and Nyck de Vries. However, it does not appear on a list of teams to have committed to the renamed Formula 3.5 Series in 2016, when RPM Racing takes sole control following Renault Sport's withdrawal.

Of the 11 current teams, DAMS is the only absentee. Comtec features despite only having appeared once so far this season.

Newcomer Spirit of Race – run by the owner of the AF Corse sports car team, Amato Ferrari – appears, and RPM is in negotiations with "other new teams in regards to a possible entry."

The bulk of the 2016 Formula 3.5 Series is set to be run alongside the GT Open championship, while Michelin will continue as the tire supplier.
