Officine Autodromo releases Brian Redman Edition Chronograph

Launched earlier this year, New York-based lifestyle brand Officine Autodromo has produced a a limited edition of its Prototipo Chronograph commemorating Brian Redman’s 1969 win at the Nurburgring 1000km (LEFT) with Jo Siffert in a Porsche 908. As Redman is being feted as one of Porsche’s stars at this weekend’s

Porsche Rennsport Reunion

, it seems an appropriate time to look at this limited edition timepiece.

But first, a reminder of the race that inspired it.

At the Nurburgring 1000km race in 1969, Siffert had crashed the new Porsche 908 Flunder in practice, meaning that Redman and Siffert would run the race in a spare car entered by Porsche Salzburg. Emblazoned with the red and white colors of Austria, the Porsche 908/02 was not the latest equipment, but Redman was still able to outrun Pedro Rodriguez in the Ferrari to clinch a victory against the odds.

The watch, too, bears the same Red and White paint scheme as the Porsche Salzburg 908/02, with a green centerstop hand referencing the bright green accents on the racecar that helped to differentiate it from a distance. The caseback features a map of the tortuous Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit, which featured over 170 corners winding through the Eifel Mountains. The Prototipo Brian Redman Edition comes in special edition packaging along with a 42 page booklet hand-signed by Redman himself.

Only 500 total watches have been made with the first 100 in 18K Gold plate and the remaining pieces in stainless steel. The gold plated versions are available for $1200.00 while the stainless steel versions are $775. The watches use a Japanese made Seiko VK630 Chronograph Hybrid Meca-Quartz Movement, have a sapphire crystal and measures 48 x 42 mm.
