FR3.5: Pons changes lineup again
Pons Racing will give a Formula Renault 3.5 debut to Yu Kanamaru this weekend at the Nurburgring. The Japanese racer drives for the Spanish squad in the EuroFormula Open series, where he sits third in the standings.
Kanamaru will be the sixth driver fielded by Pons this year, and he will partner Manor Formula 1 driver Roberto Merhi, who missed last weekend's Silverstone round due to it clashing with the Italian Grand Prix.
"I know Yu really well and we witnessed his growth race by race in the EuroFormula Open. Pons team boss Emilio de Villota said. "The move to the 3.5 championship is a natural progression for him, although it won't be easy to line up without a testing program.
"On the other hand, I know that he has all the qualities needed to successfully approach a powerful and demanding car like this."
