PPIHC: Millen, Zwart top Pikes Peak qualifiers

Rhys Millen's hopes of becoming the first overall winner of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with an

electric-powered vehicle

got a boost Wednesday when the Pikes Peak veteran set the fastest time in qualifying sessions for Sunday's race to the top of the 14,000ft Colorado mountain.

Millen's time of 3:43.75 in the eO PP03 (pictured) was more than 15 seconds faster than the next-fastest time, set by Pikes Peak veteran Jeff Zwart in his Time Attack 1 class Porsche 911, and set a record for the all-electric vehicle class. Another former winner, Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima, set the third-fastest time in his Unlimited class racer.

The 93rd running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is set for Sunday.
