F3: Tveter waiting for medical clearance
Formula 3 European Championship driver Ryan Tveter is waiting to be declared fit to take part in the next round after being hospitalised by a crash at Monza last weekend.
The American was eliminated at the beginning of the final race on Sunday morning when he hit the rear of Fabian Schiller's car under braking for the first chicane. Tveter's Carlin-run Dallara was launched into the air before coming to a rest, and he was taken to hospital for evaluation. He is hoping to be cleared to race at Spa-Francorchamps on June 19-21.
"The doctors and care at San Gerardo in Monza were great, but with the Italians being on holiday until Wednesday, they were working with a reduced staff and services, so Ryan was transferred to Switzerland, where he lives, on Monday," said Tveter's manager Terry Collins. "The injury is orthopedic in nature, and hopefully ultimately minor.
"Ryan is in good spirits, and he's already looking forward to getting back behind the wheel as soon as possible."
Tveter's collision triggered the first of two safety car periods in the final race at Monza, with officials then stopping the race after warning drivers that bad behavior would not be tolerated.
