MotoGP: Pedrosa to miss Spanish Grand Prix
Dani Pedrosa has revealed that he will not return to MotoGP at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix as he continues to recover from surgery.
The Spaniard missed the last two races in America and Argentina after undergoing surgery in an attempt to resolve the arm pump issues that re-appeared during the Qatar Grand Prix, but he has had to extend his time on the sidelines to include his home race at Jerez.
"I wanted to give you good news but unfortunately I can't, as I won't be in Jerez," said Pedrosa. "Yesterday I tried to ride a supermotard bike to check my arm.
"Even though at first it felt OK, after riding my forearm still didn't feel 100 percent. I know that if I do the whole race at the weekend it will be much worse, and the last thing I want is to create another big problem. So it has been a very difficult decision to make, but I think the best is to wait a while longer, go ahead with the rehabilitation and be back in Le Mans [on May 17]."
The Honda rider – who was replaced by test rider Hiroshi Aoyama for the last two rounds – said he will give a further update on his condition after this weekend's event.
"I'm really looking forward to being with the team again," he said. "Since pre-season they have been working like crazy and they deserve the best. I will update you next week."
Pedrosa's factory Honda teammate Marc Marquez is also nursing an injury at the moment, following a crash on a dirt track last week.
