Petty Exotic Driving Experience manager dies in accident at Walt Disney World Speedway
Gary Terry, senior operations manager and former lead driving instructor for the Richard Petty Exotic Driving Experience at Walt Disney World Speedway, was killed Sunday afternoon when the Lamborghini in which he was riding crashed.
According local TV station WFTV, the Florida Highway Patrol reported that driver Tavon Watson, 24, lost control of the supercar and struck a trackside guardrail. Terry was pronounced dead at the scene, while Watson was hospitalized with minor injuries.
The Exotic Driving Experience is an expansion of the original NASCAR stock car-themed Richard Petty Driving Experience, and offers customers the chance to drive a variety of exotic sports cars.
"The entire Petty family, and everyone associated with Petty, is deeply saddened by the passing of Gary Terry yesterday," said NASCAR legend Richard Petty in a statement. "Our prayers go out to his family and everyone affected by this tragedy. We are all thinking about the family and friends of Gary and all the employees of the Exotic Driving Experience."
The Petty attraction was already scheduled to close in August, ahead of the scheduled demolition of the speedway.
