Formula E considers change to pitlanes

Formula E's in-race car swaps could all take place in a more conventional pitlane in the future, following the series' use of the IndyCar pits in Long Beach.

Last weekend's Formula E round marked the first time that drivers did not have to return to their teams' temporary garages to perform a car swap, instead making the switch in designated bays in the IndyCar pitlane. Series CEO Alejandro Agag revealed that this type of setup was his preferred option ahead of the championship's launch, and that it could be used at every race next season.

"We had a lot of discussions, about a year and a half before we launched the championship, about how we wanted the garage and pitlane to work," said Agag. "My preference was to have the system we had here, but my view didn't succeed.

"My team won that one and went for the garage system, but I'm happy that we had the different approach here. I like the IndyCar layout, and we had a lot of discussions about it – it's interesting to see how it works.

"It hasn't required a major change, so let's see – maybe we will do this everywhere from next year. It also allows us to give more accessibility to the paddock for fans, which gives better experience."
