DTM revamps its DRS use rules
The DTM has significantly revamped its use of DRS for the 2015 season, as part of a push to increase overtaking in the series.
In 2014, the second year of DRS in the DTM, drivers could use the system once after crossing the start-finish line within two seconds of the car in front. They will need to be closer this year, within one second, but will be free to use DRS three times during the following lap.
The wing angle when DRS is engaged has also been altered, and will be lowered by 18 degrees, rather than 16 degrees.
In other newly finalized sporting regulations, tyre allocations have been tweaked after the option tire was dropped late last year. To complete Saturday's 40-minute race, Sunday's 60-minute race and the pair of qualifying sessions announced last month, drivers will be supplied with four sets of the standard dry Hankook rubber, down from a total of five across the two dry compounds in 2014.
"Providing the spectators enthralling motor racing and top-class entertainment represents our top priority," series boss Hans Werner Aufrecht explained. "To do so, spectacular overtaking maneuvers on the track and thrilling races up to the final lap are a must – and that's exactly what DTM has been providing for many years. This is the reason why it's one of the most attractive race series of the world."
