Law change opens door for Swiss Formula E race

A relaxation in Switzerland's ban on motor racing has opened the door for Formula E to race in the country in the future.

Racing has been banned in Switzerland since the 1955 Le Mans disaster in which a number of spectators were killed. However, Formula E, which recently carried out a demonstration run with Simona de Silvestro on the streets of Geneva, is now eyeing up a Swiss race in its third season (2016-'17) following a passage of a new law loosening the ban to permit electric-powered vehicles to race.

Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag praised the efforts of the championship's Swiss partners Julius Baer and TAG Heuer for their help on the matter.

"We are very happy to get the opportunity to bring Formula E to Switzerland and would like to thank our Swiss partners for their forceful support," he said. "Now we will work on the details of the race, including the selection of the city which will host it."
