America’s Car Museum (ACM), the largest automotive museum in North America, will receive proceeds from a donated collector car that will be sold at this year’s Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. The sale will benefit ACM’s extensive educational programs.
The sale of a 1961 Chrysler 300G coupe – one of five know in existence – will attract American car collectors and NASCAR fans and alike. In its prime, this historic vehicle was used to promote NASCAR’s Daytona “Flying Mile” and was featured in magazines, news articles and corporate promotions. It is the road-going version of the 300G driven by NACAR racer Gregg Ziegler, who won the 1961 Daytona Flying Mile.
Valued at $250,000, this legendary ‘Code 218’ collector car is original from its transmission and engine, all the way down to its factory manuals, sales documents, spare tire and jack.
“This donation will help ensure that our educational endeavors continue to encourage students’ interest in America’s unique car history,” said David Madeira, president and CEO of the Tacoma, Washington-based museum. “We are grateful that support from the vehicle donor and the Barrett-Jackson Auction will keep our programs accelerating.”
ACM’s education programs cater to enthusiasts of all ages, including pre-kindergarten to college class visitations, youth and family programs and car restoration scholarships. These programs have served more than 66,500 students in the past three years. The Hagerty Education Program at America’s Car Museum, founded in 2005 by Hagerty and formerly known as the Collectors Foundation, supports a pathway to careers and hands-on, career-based education for young adults focused on automotive restoration and preservation. It has awarded more than $2.75 million dollars since 2005.
This year, ACM is expanding its educational agenda to enrich its “Powering the Future” exhibit, which focuses on advances in automotive technology and will encourage students with hands-on experience.
Bidding for the Chrysler 300G will begin Jan. 17 at WestWorld of Scottsdale, 16601 North Pima Road.
