Skip Barber INDYCAR Academy enters final day of competition

For the first two days of the 3rd Annual Skip Barber INDYCAR Academy, drivers had the opportunity to partake in seminars and learned from industry leaders including safety professional Kelly Jones from RaceCraft1, veteran Skip Barber instructor Bruce MacInnes and past INDYCAR Academy champion Michai Stephens. Participants had the opportunity to expand their knowledge on safety training, were educated on what it takes to succeed in motorsports and became acclimated to Sebring International Raceway.

Yesterday, day two, drivers had the entire day to prove themselves on track in the Formula Skip Barber race cars. With seasoned (all are former professional race car drivers themselves) Skip Barber Racing School instructors on each corner writing notes and giving feedback, each driver's every move was under watchful eye. If any driver were to have an off track excursion or simply wanted some helpful tips, they were able to pull into the pits during their session and receive radio feedback from the instructors.

"Drivers have really showcased a lot of improvement in the last two days," said Keith Dalton, Director, Competition, "and they are neck-in-neck in the point standings. One mistake can be costly in this last round. The stakes are high and these racers know it, but they are stepping up to the plate"

Heading into the third day of competition, the top five racers are:

Chase Owen
Ronald Castillo
Andre Millete
David Porcelli
Ben Waddell

The final day will include one more timed session and a new champion will be crowned.

The 2014 INDYCAR Academy shootout will include a robust lineup of scholarships up for participants to win. RaceCraft1 will be awarding more than $4,500 worth of prizes to the top three racers in the competition while the champion will earn the "Top Gun Award" from RACER Magazine. He will receive a feature in a future issue of the acclaimed publication.

In addition to the contingency prizes listed above, Skip Barber Racing School will award more than $65,000 in scholarship prizes to the participants.
