Geoff Carter exits PWC
Pirelli World Challenge director of competition Geoff Carter has exited the series after helping the SCCA Pro Racing series undergo an amazing transformation in recent years. With decades spent in motor racing in roles ranging from Indy car crew chief to sports car team manager, Carter joined PWC in 2012 as the series looked to increase its car counts and popularity.
Overseeing the adoption and integration of FIA GT3 cars into the PWC GT category ranked among Carter's greatest accomplishments with the series, which has gone on to thrive and is poised to host its biggest grid of GT3-spec cars in 2015.
"I am very thankful to the Pirelli World Challenge Series and all of the teams and manufacturers who made the racing and the spirit of the series so amazing during my three years as director of competition and race director," Carter told RACER. "The incredible growth and resurgence of the series is a testament to the hard work of a very small team, and I'm very proud to have been a part of what we built. I wish the series and everyone involved nothing but the best."
Carter wasn't prepared to discuss where he's headed, but said he expects to confirm his plans in the coming weeks.
"It's with mixed emotions that I'm leaving PWC, but some doors have opened recently and I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to explore them," he continued. "I am very excited about what's ahead and can't wait to take on my next challenge"
With an influx of GT3 cars, a new Porsche Cup class and changes to the structure of when and where some classes will race, the timing of Carter's departure is unfortunate. Despite its upward momentum, PWC has experienced an exceptionally high turnover rate with its director of competition.
Once Carter's successor is named, he or she will become the fifth person to hold the position since 2008, following Ken Tripkos (2008), Neil Hannemann (2009), TC Kline (2010-2011), and Carter (2012-2014).
