Rally broadcaster Greg Strange dies

Renowned radio broadcaster Greg Strange passed away on Friday following a short illness. He was 61.

Most recently known for his work on iRally, Strange was always at his best on the radio, talking touring cars or rallying.

The BBC correspondent for the World Rally Championship, Strange's inimitable tone and character chartered the title glories of both Colin McRae and Richard Burns.

His time with the BBC also took him into numerous other sporting arenas, including international rugby.

While the demands of the BBC inevitably faded with the loss of British presence at the front of the World Rally Championship, so Strange ramped up his own station's coverage of the series.

He was a true pioneer in bringing radio to rallying and the fan's current consumption of live, stage-end drama simply would not have been possible without his input. Never one to shy away from controversy, Strange could always be found at the center of a debate and the sport will be the poorer for the loss of his voice and presence.

Strange is survived by wife Eiddwen and daughter Olivia.
