Formula E set to use shorter Monaco circuit

Formula E is set to race on a shorter version of the Monaco circuit that would run in both directions on the harbor front.

Series boss Alejandro Agag has revealed plans for a 1.2-mile circuit that would turn sharp right after the start-finish straight at Ste Devote when his championship takes to the streets of Monte Carlo next May. The Formula E version of the Circuit de Monaco would then run parallel to and in the opposite direction of the grand prix track toward the tunnel. A hairpin at the chicane would then bring the Formula E cars back onto the grand prix track to complete their lap.

"It is going to be a very good layout, about two kilometres [1.2 miles]," said Agag.

Should this layout not prove workable, it is understood that Formula E would race on a circuit measuring less than a mile, which would incorporate the start-finish straight, the new right hander at Ste Devote, the swimming pool section and La Rascasse.

Monaco is not scheduled to be on the calendar for the second season of Formula E because it takes the slot on the calendar filled by the Historic Grand Prix at Monaco every other year. Agag has revealed that a race in Paris is a strong possibility for season two of the series.

"We are having discussions on which I can't go into detail," explained Agag. "I am very optimistic about having a race in Paris in season two and if we have a race in Paris, I would like that race to be the first one of the season."
