F1: More to come from updates, Renault says

Renault is hopeful it will be able to run its latest software updates at maximum capacity for the Hungarian Grand Prix, after they did not deliver the step expected at Hockenheim.

The French manufacturer had hoped the updates would be ready to produce a decent step forward for its teams from last weekend's German GP. But after not being able to get the most out of them there, efforts over the past few days have left it more confident that there should be further progress at the Hungaroring.

"We did not change a lot of things, but we hope to be at 100 percent of what we have got," explained Renault's head of track operations Remi Taffin. "That is the aim for this weekend – to make sure that what we learned from the last test and the last race is being used to use it for full potential.

"The step we had at Hockenheim we got maybe 50 per cent, and we are going to get the other 50 percent here."

World champion Sebastian Vettel admitted after Hockenheim that the step there was not as much as he had hoped, which is why he was not getting his expectations up this time out.

"In general they are pushing really, really hard," he said about the work of Renault and fuel supplier Total. "Last weekend we expected an upgrade that unfortunately didn't happen – it didn't bring the advantage we were looking for.

"So, tomorrow we should have the normal step between Friday and Saturday, which is normal down the pit lane when you run fresher engines to use a little bit more power. But we have to wait and see."
