F1: Ericsson given double penalty

Marcus Ericsson will have to start the German Grand Prix from the pitlane, plus serve a 10-second stop/go penalty, due to Caterham breaching Formula 1's parc ferme rules on Saturday.

Ericsson's car was not put into parc ferme within the scheduled time after qualifying, after an hydraulic leak was found on his Renault engine.

Following a discussion with the FIA race stewards on Sunday morning, it was decided that Ericsson should be handed both the pitlane start, plus a 10 stop/go penalty that needs to be served within the first three laps of the race.

A statement issued by the stewards said: "The reason for the dual penalties is to serve as a disincentive to a breach of parc ferme, resulting in unsupervised access and significant extra time to work on a car between qualifying and the race."

Ericsson would have started from the back of the grid due to his failure to complete a lap in qualifying.
