Team Heads to Canada with Momentum

mlovecchio

In the Watkins Glen event just two weeks ago, team driver Dylan Murcott qualified the #10 Mitchum Motorsports BMW 128i in the fourth position.  At the race start the GS field ahead had a pile up on the front straight causing the start of the Street Tuner field to be waived off under full course caution.  As the street tuner field slowed to avoid the carnage, a back-marker in the class came through the pack and caused a pile up of their own.  Unfortunately the #10 car was also caught up in it as they were wedged between two cars and forced off course.  The team quickly remedied a fix to the cosmetic damage, but there would be no time to address the broken rear shock.  Murcott was sent out into the fray, now a couple laps behind the rest of the field to get back as many positions as possible. Murcott would hand the car over to teammate Dillon Machavern who would pilot the car home to the finish.  In the end it wasn’t the result the team was looking for when it began with such a strong qualifying position, and the team is looking towards Canada to get some luck on their side as they enter the Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix presented by Hawk Performance at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.Machavern would pull double duty on the weekend has he would also co-pilot the #80 Lamborghini Gallardo LP-560 with co-driver Lee Carpentier in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series.  Machavern would start the first race of the weekend, quickly making up spots on the competition when he got brake checked going into the ‘bus stop’ causing front end damage and ending their first event.  The teams’ efforts would wind up on a positive note in that first race as the teams’ second entry of Ryan Eversley and Ray Mason would pilot the #07 Lamborghini to a second place finish. In the final race of the weekend, and race two of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series, Carpentier would start first in the #80 machine.  Carpentier would have to start near the back of the field, and use good judgment managing the field around him to make up as many positions as possible while also being able to hand over a strong car with good tires to his team mate to finish off the run.  Machavern would take over at the mid-point and bring the car across the line with a third place podium to their credit in the amateur class and fifth place overall.  The #07 entry had some ground to make up half way through and came home ninth overall and forth in the Pro class.“We had a weekend of highs and lows in the Mitchum Motorsports camp.” Machavern continues; “In the BMW we had a very strong car right off the truck.  Unfortunately the car was collected in a yellow flag incident at the start, crushing our hopes, although we did limp the car home to the finish. The Lamborghini was fast all weekend and if not for being four tenths of a second short pit stop could have brought home the win, but we still ended on the podium, we’re happy to end the weekend that way!”Recapping the weekend Carpentier states; “My first time being in the #80 West Palm Beach Mitchum Motorsports Lamborghini Super Trofeo was a bit of mixed emotions.  We really had our ups and downs this weekend at Watkins Glen International.  Although we did not make it through race 1 due to a pile up in the bus stop we did claim P3 in class during the second race.  All in all it was a good weekend for the team and we are all looking forward to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park next week.”For this weekend, both Murcott and Machavern are poised for a strong run at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in the #10 BMW 128i in the Street Tuner class.  For much of the season the pair has been learning new tracks, but for most of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge field the circuit formerly known as Mosport is new to the schedule, thus evening the playing field.  Both Machavern and Carpentier are back behind the wheel of the Lamborghini, but this time Dillon will move over to the #07 car by himself as Lee handles all the driving duties of the #80 machine for both races on the slate for this weekend.  Mitchum is looking to maximize results as the team currently sits second in the Team Championship points standings in the 2014 Lamborghini Super Trofeo series for North America. The Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix presented by Hawk Performance at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park will air on Fox Sports 1 on July 20th, 2014 at 10:00am EST.Source:
