Indy Lights: Dallara IL15 begins wind tunnel testing
The Dallara IL15 Indy Lights chassis, which is set to replace the aging model currently in use by the series for 2015, has begun initial wind tunnel testing at the manufacturer's base in Italy. Tony Cotman, who heads the new-car project for Andersen Promotions, gave RACER a quick update on its progress.
"Things are moving right along with the car and now Dallara have a scale model running in their tunnel," he said. "We're on target for testing this summer, and after they're done in the wind tunnel and make any final changes that come out of it, we'll start to move onto having the first prototype made."
Mated to a turbocharged four-cylinder engine from England's Advanced Engine Research, the IL15 will succeed the 2002 Infiniti Pro Series chassis commissioned from Dallara, packing up to 500hp as the Indy Lights series looks to grow its field and reinvigorate the top step of IndyCar's Mazda Road to Indy ladder system.
The unveiling of the IL15 could take place during the month of May at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
