Technical updates: 2026 Sao Paulo Grand Prix

McLaren is the only team to bring any new components to the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, according to the FIA’s submission sheet for the final race of a tripleheader of consecutive race weekends.

Multiple teams introduced upgrades in Austin two weeks ago – including McLaren – while there were further circuit-specific items last time out in Mexico. However, only McLaren has continued to bring developments to for this weekend’s race at Interlagos, taking advantage of another three practice sessions to introduce four new components.

The most notable is a brand-new front wing, that McLaren says is a completely new design “aimed at improved flow conditioning towards the floor and bodywork resulting in improved aerodynamic performance.” The wing is set to be the same design used for the launch 2027 car, but is an upgrade that will race this weekend if it performs as expected.

There is also a new rear wing and beam wing that will work in conjunction with one another, as McLaren looks for an improvement in interaction and flow conditioning as well as increased aerodynamic load.

The final area of development is the floor, with McLaren introducing what it describes as “a small modification to the floor furniture, resulting in better flow conditioning and resultant improvement of aerodynamic performance of the floor.”

With three practice sessions this weekend rather than the Sprint format of last year, McLaren will analyze its upgrades across both Friday sessions, Leonardo Fornaroli helping with analysis during another FP1 outing for the reserve driver.
