IMSA champ Quinn lands Peugeot Hypercar race seat for 2027
Alex Quinn will step up from his role as a test and development driver to become a full factory driver for Team Peugeot TotalEnergies in the FIA World Endurance Championship next season, with a multi-year deal confirmed Thursday.
The 25-year-old Briton joined Peugeot’s development program after impressing during the 2025 Bahrain Rookie Test and has played a key role in the team’s efforts to develop its heavily revised 9X8 Hypercar ahead of the coming season.
Quinn becomes the second new signing confirmed by Peugeot Sport for 2027, following the announcement last month that Robert Shwartzman will join the team.
His move to Peugeot caps his rise through the LMP2 ranks in recent years. A multiple karting champion, Quinn was named Rookie of the Year in both the British F4 Championship and Formula Renault Cup before switching to endurance racing in 2023.
After helping Ben Keating and Paul Loup Chatin to the 2023 IMSA Endurance title with PR1 Mathiasen, Quinn has gone on to deliver race-winning performances in the European Le Mans Series, Asian Le Mans Series and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
That upward trajectory continued through a hugely successful 2026 season, with Quinn securing the IMSA LMP2 title last weekend with a class victory at Petit Le Mans for CrowdStrike Racing by APR. That followed a Le Mans LMP2 Pro-Am class win with the team in June and a class victory in the Rolex 24 At Daytona.
“Becoming an official driver for Team Peugeot TotalEnergies in the FIA World Endurance Championship is a dream come true,” Quinn said. “It has been fantastic working with the team throughout this year, both at the factory and during testing programmes. Stepping up to a full-time race seat is something I am incredibly excited about and something I feel ready for after my recent successes in other championships.
“Most importantly, I am extremely grateful to everyone at Team Peugeot TotalEnergies for this opportunity, and I hope this is the beginning of an exciting journey together.”
Emmanuel Esnault, team principal of Team Peugeot TotalEnergies, added: “We are delighted to promote Alex from a role of test and development driver to a full-time race driver role in 2027. Alex has demonstrated great abilities at the wheel of the car when testing with us and sporting achievements in LMP2 again this season.
“Alex’s pedigree is quite impressive as a le Mans Winner in LMP2 Pro-Am, a Rolex Daytona LMP2 Winner, and a IMSA and ELMS race winner. This is the 2nd time that at Peugeot, we are promoting a young talent coming from the LMP2 landscape into a race driver role in LMH, and we are looking forward to race with him next year at the wheel of the evolved Peugeot 9X8.”
