Technical updates: 2026 Italian Grand Prix
Every Formula 1 team except Audi has brought some form of upgrade to the Italian Grand Prix, with a mix of circuit-specific developments and pure performance items.
Monza places an emphasis on low drag as a result of its long straights, but the introduction of the Straight Line Mode in the 2026 regulations allows drivers to reduce the amount of drag through the active aerodynamics on every lap. That means there are fewer specific wings being brought to Italy, but other areas of the cars have been targeted to become more efficient.
McLaren has a new rear wing and updated floor furniture, with both changes resulting in a larger reduction of drag but also an improvement in aerodynamic performance. A similar approach has been taken by Mercedes, with various winglet devices removed from the rear wing to improve drag, and the mirror rear stays trimmed back.
Red Bull (pictured above) has a wider upgrade package, with a trimmed front wing endplate designed to improve the aerodynamic load generated from the floor further downstream. In conjunction with that, the bib edge of the floor has been revised to create more local load an improve stability, while the rear suspension to wheel bodywork and exhaust tailpipe bracket have both been amended for greater reliability.
For its home race, Ferrari also has a drag range package that includes changes to the floor board, mirror stay, rear brake ducts and tailpipe installation. The team says “all the steps have been targeting aerodynamic drag saving, coming along with downforce reduction as a natural consequence, but in a favorable ratio for this track.”
Williams has added a vertical fence to its halo geometry to improve efficiency levels for Monza, while also tweaking its front wing assembly for balance reasons, and adding a trim to the floor board.
An updated rear wing assembly at Racing Bulls is designed to create a greater drag reduction in Straight Line Mode, while a change to the exhaust tailpipe positioning and bracket intends to make the floor and rear wing operate more efficiently.
Aston Martin continues its recent development push with revised fairings for part of the front suspension, and an update to the area of the floor in front of the rear tire. Both aim to increase local load with improved airflow, following on from a major aerodynamic overhaul that was introduced prior to the summer break.
Another team opting to introduce a new aerodynamic package is Haas, where there is a brand-new floor that also incorporates new side geometry and a diffuser update. In partnership with that, bodywork changes see a new sidepod design and rear bodywork, as well as a narrower roll hoop and revised engine cover. That has a knock-on impact to the rear suspension, where the rear corner fairings have been re-optimized and the rear drum deflectors realigned.
The upgrades are more minimal at Alpine, where the front wing endplate has bene tweaked for an aerodynamic improvement, and the Straight Line Mode fairing has been removed for a drag reduction. Cadillac also has two small updates, with a change to its forward floor board stay, coupled with the addition of a vane to the diffuser in order to increase load.
