IndyCar confirms additional Markham grid penalties
Three more cars have been assessed six-position starting grid penalties for Sunday's Ontario Honda Dealers Indy on the streets of Markham, following unapproved engine changes after qualifying.
The No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevy driven by Pato O'Ward, along with the Hondas of Andretti Global's Nos. 26 and 27 driven by Will Power and Kyle Kirkwood, were penalized for violating Rule 16.1.2.3.2 regarding an unapproved engine change-out.
The impact of the penalties is limited, however, as all three drivers had problematic qualifying sessions that left them in the back half of the field. Power had already been set to start on the back row in 24th place, while Kirkwood qualified 16th and O'Ward 20th.
