Sadler returning to NASCAR in Kaulig ‘free agent’ truck
Elliott Sadler is set to become the next former NASCAR regular to make his return with the Kaulig Racing/Ram free agent program when he does so at his home track, Richmond Raceway, next month.
The Virginia native will drive the No. 25 entry on Aug. 14. It will be Sadler’s first NASCAR national series race since 2019.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel at Richmond Raceway in front of the great Virginia fans,” Sadler said. “It’ll be fun getting back into a truck – I just hope I still remember how to drive it. Richmond has always been special to me, and I’m thankful to Ram and Kaulig Racing for giving me this opportunity to compete again. I really cherished my career in NASCAR and how special the fans have been to me.”
Sadler, 51, made 855 starts across the three national series. In that time, Sadler won 17 races. He ended his full-time racing career at the end of the 2018 season.
In 20 starts in the Truck Series, Sadler earned one victory. It came at Pocono Raceway in 2013.
Richmond Raceway was the site of Sadler’s debut in the Truck Series in 2000. It was one of two starts at the track he made in the series.
“We are so excited to have Elliott drive for us at Kaulig Racing,” said Chris Rice, Kaulig Racing CEO. “Elliott and I grew up racing together at South Boston Speedway, so to have him race for us in Richmond, in front of our home state fans, is special. We won tons of races together, and thanks to Ram, Matt Kaulig, and everyone at Kaulig Racing, we have the opportunity to go out and try to win one more.”
Other retired drivers who have joined Kaulig Racing to drive the truck this season include Tony Stewart, Jamie McMurray and Clint Bowyer. Ryan Newman will drive it Saturday at North Wilkesboro Speedway.
