Hallman, Andersson nab victories at second round of RallyX Americas

Tommi Hallman stole victory for the second round of the RallyX Americas season at Crandon with a last corner pass on Kevin Eriksson.

Both, along with the Round 1 winner, JC Raceteknik’s Robin Larsson, went three wide into the first turn on the opening lap, with OMSE’s Kevin Eriksson getting ahead and SET Promotion driver Hallman getting shuffled out initially.

Jimmy Henderson soon joined that fight with him while Hallman closed back up, but Larsson endured opposing fortunes, spinning in front of Oliver Eriksson and taking himself out of winning contention.

Henderson applied the pressure on his OMSE teammate Kevin Eriksson on the second lap, perfectly shadowing the Swede out front.

Henderson took the Joker on the second lap in a bid to get some clear air in the hope of overhauling Kevin Eriksson later on, but he tagged the wall on the exit of the longer loop, providing some relief for his OMSE teammate.

That relief was brief, however, with Hallman recovering enough to replace Henderson as the one applying pressure on the race leader. Hallman jokered on the fourth lap of five, with Kevin Eriksson going for it on the final lap.

He remained in the lead, despite going wide on the Joker exit, almost mirroring Henderson's run through there two laps earlier, and that allowed Hallman in with a shot at the win.

A wide run through the penultimate turn for Kevin Eriksson opened that door further, and he and Hallman went through the final turn side-by-side, banging doors, with Hallman prevailing in a tense dash to the checkered flag.

Henderson took third, 7.608s ahead of Oliver Eriksson, with Larsson continuing after his lap 1 spin but finishing fifth. Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky briefly ran in the podium positions mid-race but ultimately retired on the penultimate lap with a technical problem.

Attritional earlier rounds meant that no B Final took place, with only Mitchell DeJong and Lia Block able to make the grid for that.

Timmy Hansen rolled out of the second Semifinal after riding up a track marker tire while challenging Kevin Eriksson over a jump on the opening lap, while Brad DeBerti sat out the whole day after damaging his car's chassis and battery on Friday.

HYPERCAR RESULTS

In Supercar, Lukas Andersson backed up an earlier Semifinal win to dominate the final ahead of Johnny Holtger and Tyler Leach, with Gray Leadbetter the only other finisher in fourth.

Andersson's earliest challengers were Simon Olofsson and Romet Tsirna but Olofsson over-rotated into the Gravel Pit Turn and collected Tsirna during his half-spin, taking both out on the spot. DeJong, Patrick Gruzska and Banks Hovey were all eliminated after the semis.

SUPERCAR RESULTS

Larsson leads the Hypercar standings after this weekend's opening two rounds, holding an eight point advantage over Hallman as he looks to claim a third-consecutive U.S. rallycross championship after the most recent one – 2024-25 – was curtailed while he was atop of the standings.

Kevin Eriksson is third, a further four points back, just one ahead of Henderson fourth after his first weekend driving the top-level FC1.

Andersson heads the Supercar points with a 17-point advantage over Olofsson. Mitchell DeJong is third after his Round 1 win, but his participation in the rest of the season is uncertain.

He was filling in for BAK40 Motorsports team owner Eric Gordon in the Supercar class this weekend, while in Hypercar – where he occupies sixth in the standings, behind Oliver Eriksson – he was filling in for Tanner Foust, who is set to return next week.

The RallyX Americas season will continue next weekend from Eldora Speedway. Coverage will be on RACER+ once again.

Dominik often jokes that he was born in the wrong country – a lover of NASCAR and IndyCar, he covered both in a past life as a junior at Autosport in the UK, but he’s spent most of his career to date covering the sliding and flying antics of the U.S.’ interpretation of rallycross. Rather fitting for a man that says he likes “seeing cars do what they’re not supposed to do”, previously worked for a car stunt show, and once even rolled a rally car with Travis Pastrana. He was also comprehensively beaten in a kart race by Sebastien Loeb once, but who hasn’t been?
