New IMS Museum displays for May now open to the public

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum has several new displays for the Month of May, allowing more stories to be told.

In The Heritage Group Gasoline Alley Gallery, six of the seven cars have been switched out. Cars now on display include:

  • 1914 Isotta Fraschini Tipo IM, driven by Ray Gilhooly in the 4th Indianapolis 500
  • 1941 Bowes Seal Fast Special, driven by Rex Mays in the 29th “500”
  • 1955 Sumar Special, driven by Jimmy Daywalt in the 39th “500”
  • 1968 STP Oil Treatment Lotus 56, a turbine driven by Art Pollard in the 52nd “500”
  • 1983 Skoal Bandit March 83C, driven by Teo Fabi in the 67th “500”
  • 1990 Hemelgarn Buick, drivben by Bill Vukovich III in the 74th “500”

In the Mezzanine, the Museum partnered with two legacy businesses, Firestone and TAG Heuer, for displays.

Firestone’s display is in honor of their 125th anniversary and explores their history with the Indianapolis 500, dating back to 1911.

TAG Heuer’s display features special watches that celebrate their six-decade relationship with Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Additionally, there's now a display on Johnny Rutherford and the 50th anniversary since his 1976 win, and a display on the Thunderbirds.

The IMS Museum is open 9am-5pm today and Thursday, and from 7:30am-5pm. Friday and Saturday for Sonsio Grand Prix weekend.
