Collet tops second day morning session at Indy Open Test

AJ Foyt Racing’s Caio Collet learned about the power of the draft Wednesday morning at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the rookie sailed to the top of the speed chart with a best lap of 226.381mph. The young Brazilian was one of only two drivers to climb above 225mph as two-time race winner Josef Newgarden came close in the No. 2 Team Penske Chevy (226.223mph).

Conor Daly, Tuesday’s fastest driver, was third in the No. 23 Dreyer & Reinbold Chevy (224.785mph) ahead of Penske’s David Malukas in the No. 12 Chevy (224.377mph), Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato in the No. 75 Honda (224.104mph), and Meyer Shank Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist in the No. 60 Honda (224.104mph).

The planned 10am ET start was pushed back due to morning rains that lingered, but once the track was dry, approved drivers rolled out at 11:15am for a two-hour session. Katherine Legge, who has completed her refresher test, made use of a 1:15-2:15pm session before the entire field of 33 had a final run from 2:15-5pm at their disposal to close the event.
