First race winners crowned at the 48th HSR The Middy

Near-perfect weather conditions greeted Historic SportsCar Racing (HSR) competitors as they took to the track at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta for the 48th HSR The Mitty presented by Hagerty on the opening day of official competition on Friday.

The day’s action under clear skies with temperatures in the upper 70s included plenty of track time for all Run Groups and was capped by the first two feature races of the meeting: Sasco Sports International/American Challenge presented by Hoosier Race A and the Mission GT Challenge presented by Pirelli one-hour endurance race.

Topping a robust 57-car Sasco A field, Clair Schwendeman drove to the overall and American class victory as a classic Ford/Chevy battle unfolded. Schwendeman’s 1968 No. 37 Duntov Motor Company Corvette Roadster passed the Cobra Automotive 1966 No. 98 Shelby GT350 driven by Gary Moore on the fifth of nine laps on Road Atlanta’s back straight and pulled away to a 1.413s margin of victory.

Edward Sevadjian in the Duntov-prepared 1969 No. 71A Chevrolet Camaro Z28 completed the American podium, barely edging Porsche class winner Todd Treffert in his 901 Shop 1972 No. 14 Porsche 911 S/T. Treffert crossed the line nearly eight seconds ahead of Porsche class runner-up David Hinton at the wheel of the Damon DeSantis-owned 1974 No. 82 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR fielded by AJR Heritage Motorsports. Veteran winning competitor Jack Lewis notched third place in the Goldcrest class in his similar Jack Lewis Enterprises 1974 No. 9 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR.

Simon Foweather showed a clean pair of heels to the International class field in his 2005 No. 61 BMW 330i, outdistancing Austin Jabeley’s 1971 No. 71 Datsun 240Z. Clay Mobley in the 2001 No. 97 BMW 330i earned the final spot on the International rostrum.

Friday’s final event was the Mission GT Challenge presented by Pirelli enduro that saw Price Ford and the Autometrics team execute a perfectly timed strategy, pitting under the race’s first full-course yellow to fulfill the mandatory stop. That call proved decisive, propelling Ford to both the overall and GT3 class victories in the Autometrics 2022 No. 12 Porsche 992 GT3 Cup.

Patrick Paul was credited with second overall in the 2025 No. 44 Chevrolet Camaro TA2, as the race finished under full-course yellow conditions. Ben Myers delivered a strong drive after an early pit stop just 10 minutes into the race, slicing through the field to secure third overall in his 901 Shop 2017 No. 29 Porsche 991.2 GT3 Cup.

In GT3, Ford and Myers completed a 1–2 finish, with Chris Ronson Jr. and co-driver Guy Cosmo rounding out the podium in the 2018 No. 63 Porsche 991.2 GT3 Cup. The GT4 honors went to Jeff Afflerbach in the 2025 No. 10 Porsche 718 GT4 RS/CS, followed by Ryan Dalziel and Troy Monthye in the 2025 No. 280 Porsche 718 GT4 RS/CS entry in second. Paul Denton completed the podium in the 2014 No. 87 Porsche 991.1 GT3 Cup.

Saturday’s schedule is well under way at the HSR They Mitty and packs in almost 12 hours of on-track action at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta as the biggest day of the 48th HSR The Mitty presented by Hagerty. The B.R.M Legacy Endurance Challenge closes out the day from 6:50 - 7:50 p.m. EDT.

The full weekend schedule continues through Sunday afternoon before the curtain comes down on the 48th running of the HSR The Mitty.
