Power relishing normality after pace-setting Long Beach session
Adversity has been a frequent co-pilot during Will Power’s first season with Andretti Global, but the two-time IndyCar Series champion basked in normalcy on Friday at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Power’s No. 26 Honda was the fastest machine in Long Beach after leading the field of 25 cars, and if he’s fortunate, the rest of the weekend will be a fast and simple affair, minus the cartoon anvils that have rained down on a regular basis.
“Good start, man,” Power told RACER. “I'm looking for a clean weekend. That would be very nice.”
The other bit of good news for Power is his session-leading speed was by no means the best he could achieve.
“We definitely can improve the car,” he said. “Plenty to work on overnight, actually, but the car is obviously fast. Plenty of data to look at because the car was definitely not perfect, which I'm sure is the case for everyone, right? It all nets out by time we get to qualifying. But, yeah, good start.”
