Palou tops second IndyCar practice at Barber
Defending race winner Alex Palou led Saturday morning’s practice session at the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix which was cut short by Scott McLaughlin’s big crash in Turn 1.
The original session plan was for all 25 drivers to get 40 minutes of running before splitting the field into separate 12-minute runs, but with McLaughlin’s accident at the end of the full-field session and the sizable damage to the barriers, the remainder of the final practice prior to qualifying was abandoned.
Palou’s No. 10 Honda generated a 1m06.4680s to lead Kyle Kirkwood in the No. 27 Andretti Global Honda (1m06.5217s), Juncos Hollinger Racing’s Rinus VeeKay in the No. 76 Chevy (1m06.5950s), Romain Grosjean in the No. 18 Dale Coyne Racing Honda (1m06.6092s), Marcus Armstrong in the No. 66 Meyer Shank Racing Honda (1m06.6163s), and Graham Rahal in the No. 15 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda (1m06.6888s) who completed the top six.
Other than McLaughlin’s crash, a harmless spin or two were reported.
