Allgaier to remain in No. 48 as Bowman sidelined at least three more weeks

Alex Bowman will miss at least the next three NASCAR Cup Series races, Hendrick Motorsports announced Tuesday.

Bowman continues to recover from vertigo, which he was diagnosed with in the first week of March. The symptoms began March 1, and he was unable to complete the race at Circuit of The Americas. He has been sidelined from the No. 48 Chevrolet ever since, thus far missing the Phoenix Raceway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway race weekends.

“Alex continues to experience symptoms, so we are following the guidance of the medical team and giving him the time he needs to recover,” said Jeff Andrews, president and general manager of Hendrick Motorsports. “We see how hard he’s working to get back behind the wheel, and we’re looking forward to his return when he’s medically cleared. Everyone at Hendrick Motorsports is 100% behind Alex.”

Justin Allgaier (pictured above) will remain in the No. 48 Chevrolet in Bowman’s absence. Allgaier, the 2024 O’Reilly Auto Parts Series champion for JR Motorsports, the affiliate partner of Hendrick Motorsports, drove the car in Las Vegas.

“Justin is a true professional and someone we have tremendous confidence in,” Andrews said. “He’s had success at the upcoming tracks, and we appreciate him stepping in to help the No. 48 team. We’re also grateful to our partners at JR Motorsports for understanding the situation and making Justin available.”

The next three races will be contested at Darlington Raceway, Martinsville Speedway (March 29), and Bristol Motor Speedway (April 12). There is also the Easter off weekend between the Martinsville and Bristol events.

Myatt Snider completed the race at COTA or Bowman. Anthony Alfredo drove the car at Phoenix.
