Gasly invests in Steiner’s Tech3 MotoGP team

Pierre Gasly has become the first active Formula 1 driver currently with a stake in a MotoGP team, after investing in Guenther Steiner’s Tech3 squad.

Tech3 announced its acquisition had been completed by multiple entities, with Bolt Ventures and Main Street Advisors partnering with IKON Capital. Former Haas Formula 1 team principal Steiner serves as Red Bull KTM Tech3’s CEO as part of the deal, and Gasly is part of the wider investor group as MotoGP looks to grow its North American and Asian footprint.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to invest in Tech3 alongside SLAM Fund,” Gasly said. “I have a strong conviction in the strength of the Tech3 brand and the long-term growth of the MotoGP sport. Tech3 has significant untapped potential, and I look forward to contributing to further elevating the team’s profile.”

Of the headline U.S-based investors, Bolt Ventures is run by David Blitzer, who is described as the first individual to hold team equity in all five major U.S. men’s professional sports leagues – NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB and MLS.

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton had been linked with investment into KTM in the past, prior to the change in ownership. The MotoGP project is one of a number of businesses Steiner is involved in, having left his role as Haas team principal at the start of 2024.

“It’s a very exciting time to be entering MotoGP, and it was important to IKON Capital and me to bring together a group of like-minded investors who share a long-term vision for the Tech3 team,” Steiner said. “We are joined by a strong group that understands motorsport, brings genuine value-added capabilities, and shares our core values.

“Just as importantly, we are committed to preserving Tech3’s heritage while taking a measured, strategic approach to growth. This is about building on what already works, and I’m looking forward to working together to shape the team’s future.”

MotoGP is now owned by Formula 1’s owner Liberty Media, following the approval and completion of a takeover last year.
