
Mahindra commits to Formula E's GEN4 era
Mahindra is the latest manufacturer to commit to Formula E's GEN4 era, becoming the last of the current crop of drivetrain producers to sign up to the next set of regulations for the all-electric series that will debut in 2026.
The news was announced at a special event in India where Mahindra Racing's M12Electro was showcased, and means that Formula E's longest-running manufacturer relationship will continue until at least 2030.
Mahindra has competed in every Formula E season to date, running as a manufacturer since Season 2 (when the series moved from an entirely spec formula to allow teams and manufacturers to develop their own powertrains) and has taken five wins, 28 podiums, and 11 pole positions in that time. With Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara, it finished last season fourth in the teams' standings and fifth in the manufacturers’ championship, comfortably outscoring Lola Yamaha Abt – the only other manufacturer with no customers running its drivetrain, thus having only two cars in the mix.

What we have built and achieved as a group has been exceptional, and with this announcement, we now have the platform to keep growing and developing and achieve even greater success in the future.

They have bought into the project and the vision, and we will keep working hard to not only make India proud but also showcase exactly why it has the potential to be a major player on the world stage in the automotive and technology industries.
“Their enthusiasm to ‘Scream Electric’ is hugely inspiring to the whole team, and we will continue to represent them with pride in this next exciting chapter of our Formula E story in the coming years.”
Nissan was the first of the current manufacturers to sign up to GEN4 in March of last year, followed by Jaguar, Porsche (which will field two factory teams when GEN4 is introduced next season), and Lola over the following three months, while Stellantis initially announced last November that Maserati would carry its flag, only for the brand to withdraw this season and be replaced by Citroën – it, along with Opel, are expected to be the nameplates representing Stellantis from next season.

Formula E unveiled its GEN4 car at the start of the month. Racing from the 2026-27 season, it features 50 percent more power than the current GEN3 Evo machines, and has permanent four-wheel-drive as well as improved aerodynamics, enabling it to reach speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour.
