Ferrari WEC team retains Nielsen

2024 Le Mans 24 Hours overall winner Nicklas Nielsen has been handed a multi-year contract extension by Ferrari. The Danish racer is the third Ferrari factory sports car driver to receive an extension in recent months, after Antonio Giovinazzi and Alessio Rovera were both handed new contracts in July.

The 28-year-old has competed since the 2023 season in the top class of the FIA WEC in the No. 50 Ferrari 499P alongside Antonio Fuoco and Miguel Molina, as well as in selected international series with the 296 GT3.

Winner of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Europe in 2018, Nielsen has collected 12 wins and 23 podiums from 41 FIA WEC starts, including results with production-derived cars. His record also includes drivers’ titles in the FIA WEC Endurance Trophy LMGTE Am class (2019–20 and 2021), the European Le Mans Series in LMGTE (2019), and the GT World Challenge Europe – Endurance Cup (2021). But the standout highlight is his overall win at Le Mans in the No. 50 499P last year.

“Continuing to be part of the group of Ferrari official drivers is both a source of pride and a great responsibility for me,” Nielsen said. “In recent years, I have had the privilege of achieving wins I will never forget, above all the victory at Le Mans in 2024, as well as the opportunity to continue improving as a driver.

“With great determination, I thank Ferrari and look to the future with the hope of continuing to win races and titles together while representing the Prancing Horse.

Antonello Coletta, the global head of Ferrari Endurance and Corse Clienti, said: “After winning the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Europe one-make series in 2018, Nicklas’s growth has been marked by many successes and titles with GT cars.

“That journey took a further step forward in 2023 with his move into the top class of the FIA WEC, where he won the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans in the 499P, confirming his maturity as one of Ferrari’s leading drivers. Determination and leadership are Nicklas’s hallmarks: we are proud to be able to continue this journey with him.”
